Non scholae, sed gaudio discimus!
The motto of the Klingon Language Meeting is a slightly adapted form of the famous latin Seneca-quote and means in this case: "We do not learn for school, but we learn for fun." This represents the fact that even learning a constructed language is not boring but means a big amount of fun.

THE LANGUAGE MEETING
|
A SHORT INTRODUCTION
Each summer, the Klingon Language Institute (KLI) organizes the (qep'a', "big meeting"), a five day long meeting where klingon-speakers from around the world gather to speak about and in Klingon. Unfortunately, only a small amount of members have the possibility to attend the qep'a' every year, so the solution was to get the meeting to the members.
A qepHom (literally: "minor meeting") is an informal gathering which enables klingon speakers to gather in their area, to share their interest in the language of the warrior. The qepHom in Germany has grown so large over the years that even Marc Okrand himself agreed to call it a qepHom'a' ("big minor meeting"), although this is ungrammatical. This qepHom is hosted by a past Beginners' Grammarian of the KLI. It is open to everyone who likes to learn klingon, membership in the KLI is not mandatory to participate, and the registration fee only covers the cost of the working material. Knowledge in Klingon is not necessary. This is the best occasion to learn and practice Klingon, and to meet other "Klingonists"! Here you will hear and see why Klingon is called the "fastest growing language in the galaxy"!
We will discuss about the language, learn where it came from and where it's going to. You'll have the chance to see a collection of books, we'll listen to some sections from Conversational Klingon and Power Klingon. We'll practice the pronunciation of some important proverbs, like nuqDaq yuch Dapol and 'IwlIj jachjaj...
The qepHom in Saarbrücken is held every year during a whole weekend in november. The learning program is set up in a way that beginners can easily find their way into the language, while the advanced will not get bored. On a playing way one can learn and live the klingon language. Although we are having a lot of fun each year, the linguistic and scientific aspect is always present, so that also non-star-trek-fans like teachers and scientists have found their interest and use of the qepHom.

THE TEACHER

GENERAL
|
The klingon classes, called "qepHom", are organised and held by Dipl. Ing. Lieven L. Litaer, a Belgian living in Germany. In his daily life, he works as an architect. He has been a Star Trek fan for many years, which gave him the way to the klingon language. But not only his enthusiasm for the klingon culture, but also his stunning language skills contribute to the fact that he can in the best way represent the language in film, radio and television.
